Another name that we do not see in the city centre any more is Hardings. Their large store was in Union Street before the war and Old Town Street after the war but then the company decided to leave the city centre and can now be found in Tavistock, Billacombe and Newton Abbot although you won't find the name "Hardings" above the door. They now trade under the name of Fairway Furniture.
Our next company is Lawsons, a family business that has been trading in Plymouth for 116 years. Sadly the recent problems with the virus has led to the company announcing the closure of the Plymouth store. Lawsons will continue trading in Tavistock, Totnes and Ivybridge and, of course, on-line. If you wish to read about the history of this family business, Chris Robinson has written, with the support of the Lawson family, an excellent book which is available from Lawsons or Amazon.
